Leaders in Training

LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) - Students entering Grades 8 through 12
Leaders in Training program (LIT for short) provides middle school and high school students with ongoing opportunites to volunteer as well as develop leadership and job skills.  Throughout the program, LIT participants work under the guidance of a Program Director or Coordinator and alongside the staff of our youth programs to help deliver YMCA summer programming, including:  Tiny Trekkers, Discovery Camp, Journey Camp, and Otumba Campl. Prior to the start of these programs, LITs participate in an introductory training that covers the basic skills needed to deal effectively with groups of children and addresses program planning, group work, organization, safety awareness, leadership skills, and motivation.  LIT's are expected to model the YMCA core values, honesty, responsibility, respect, and caring at all times, as well as, be positive role models for the campers they work with.  LIT participants are selected based on their passion for working with children, their attitude, and their desire to learn and practice leadership skills.

How do I become a Leader in Training?
Joining the program is easy.  Those interested in being an LIT may call or stop in to sign up for the program just like any other YMCA class.  In addition, participants need to fill out the LIT application.  All LITs will be expected to attend the summer kickoff meeting.  At that time we will place everyone for the summer.  LIT's should expect to volunteer about one day per week, be sure to select your preferred days on the application. Contact Ben Rikkola at 743-4949 or brikkola@doorcountyymca.org
