Youth Swim

POLLIWOG 1 - Ages 6+ (Sturgeon Bay & Northern Door)
The objectives of this program are to learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.  At this level elementary skills are taught and participants start developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

POLLIWOG 2 - Ages 6+ (Sturgeon Bay & Northern Door)
This program is designed to give participants success with fundamental skills.  Participants learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position.  This level marks the beginning of locomotion skills.  Participants further develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back that lay the foundation for future strokes.  As in all levels, the children learn additional safety skills and improve comprehension of previous knowledge.

GUPPY 1 - Ages 6+ (Sturgeon Bay & Northern Door)
Guppy 1 will build on previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. Participants learn to survival float, swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke. They are introduced to the dolphin kick and build on the fundamentals of treading water.  Rules for headfirst entries are also taught if the water is 9 feet or deeper.  As in all levels, the children learn additional safety skills and improve comprehension of previous knowledge.

GUPPY 2 - Ages 6+ (Sturgeon Bay & Northern Door)
Guppy 2 will continue to develop participants' confidence in the strokes learned thus far and improve other aquatic skills.  Participants improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl and elementary back crawl) for greater distances.  The back crawl, breast stroke and butterfly and the basics of turning at a wall are also taught.

MINNOW - Ages 6+ (Sturgeon Bay & Northern Door)
The objectives of the Minnow class is coordination and refinement of strokes.  Participants refine their performance of all strokes learned in previous lessons and increase their distances.  Flip turns on the front and back are also introduced.

FISH - Ages 6+ (Sturgeon Bay & Northern Door)
This level is meant to refine the strokes so participants swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness and over greater distances.  Fish also introduces other aquatic activities and offers these options - Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving and Fitness Swimmer.  These options focus on preparing participants for more advanced courses, such as the Water Safety Instructor Course, or other aquatic activities, such as competitive swimming or diving.
