First Annual Day of Giving Exemplifies Community Support

The Door County community came out in full force to support the Y during its first annual Day of Giving that was held March 3. From open to close at all three locations - the Barker Child Development Center, Northern Door Program Center in Fish Creek and Sturgeon Bay Program Center - members rallied to raise awareness and funds for the Y's Annual Campaign.

From racing rubber ducks, shooting hoops, giving payback to a personal trainer, or even feasting on some yummy homemade cookies and some Door County Coffee, staff, volunteers and members were having fun and working to create a better community. Together, over 200 members donated to our Annual Campaign on Day of Giving, raising a total of $14,000.

The Annual Campaign ensures that no matter the race, age, economic status or social group, the Y is welcoming to anyone who wishes to participate in building a healthy mind, body, and spirit. No one is every turned away from the Y due to an inability to pay, making the Y a safe haven for all. When you give to the Y’s Annual Campaign, you are funding life-changing programs that help thousands of children, adults and families in our community to learn, grow and thrive every day.

The Annual Campaign Supports:

  • 1,200 quietly fee assisted members.
  • Nearly 100 subsidized children participating in YMCA Youth Development programs.
  • Select Specialty Programming focused on fall prevention, memory, senior wellness, and cancer support.
  • The Summer Foods program, which serves 500+ lunches every day of summer to children across 14 county locations.

THANK YOU to all donors who make the Y home to many of our neighbors and visitors; we couldn’t do it without YOU. When a strong YMCA provides meaningful opportunities - such as helping young people grow into responsible adults, supporting working families with child care, keeping a senior healthy and active, or offering wellness programs to combat obesity and chronic disease - our whole community benefits.
