DCY Swim Team Dominates at Home Jingle Bell Meet, Setting Multiple Team Records
DOOR COUNTY, WI – The Door County YMCA (DCY) Swim Team hosted its first home meet of the season, the renowned Jingle Bell Meet, welcoming eight teams to the Door County YMCA Aquatic Center for a competitive showdown among programs of similar and slightly larger size.
The meet highlighted what has become one of the strongest seasons in DCY Swim Team history. In a phenomenal display of depth and teamwork, DCY swimmers won every relay event in every age group, setting a new team record. From 8-and-under relays to 15-and-over relays, the sweep showcased exceptional strength and consistency across the entire program.
DCY continued its record-setting performance by winning approximately 80% of all individual events, another historic milestone for the team. Due to the volume of top finishes, recognizing every first-, second-, and third-place swimmer would span several pages. Full results are available in the official meet summary.
The meet also marked a special milestone for the YMCA’s pre-competitive Dolphin Swim Team, which welcomed six swimmers competing in their first-ever meet. Several Dolphin swimmers were already near State qualifying times, including Levi DePrey, age 8, who achieved a State qualifying time in the 25 Freestyle at his very first meet.
The Dolphin program plays a critical role in the DCY Swim Team’s long-term success, developing multiple strokes, endurance, and speed while helping young swimmers transition from swim lessons into competitive swimming. The program serves swimmers ages 6–10 and builds a strong foundation for future success.
Unlike many sports, competitive swimming is structured strictly by age groups—8-and-under, single-age 9–12, 13–14, and 15–open—making team success dependent on development at every level. This philosophy has guided DCY Swim Team’s sustained excellence.
For more than 10 years, DCY Swim has qualified the highest percentage of swimmers to the State Meet in Wisconsin relative to team size. Despite competing against programs with 200–500 swimmers, DCY consistently finishes 3rd–4th overall at the State Meet.
Adding to this legacy, four former DCY swimmers are currently competing at the collegiate level on scholarship. Each began their journey in the Dolphin program and progressed through the YMCA system to reach the highest level of competitive swimming.
“Our swimmers’ success is a testament to long-term athlete development, committed coaching, and a strong YMCA community,” said Coach Mike McHugh. “The Jingle Bell Meet was a celebration of everything DCY Swim stands for.”
