Four-Peat State Championship for Striver Gymnastics Team

 

DOOR COUNTY, WIThe Door County YMCA Strivers Excel Silver Gymnastics Team achieved an extraordinary milestone this past weekend in Green Bay, Wisconsin, securing their fourth consecutive YMCA State Championship title. Competing against nine formidable YMCA Silver Teams from across the state, the Excel Silver athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance at the event hosted by the Green Bay YMCA at Bayport High School on March 28-29. Their impressive performance earned the Strivers a total of eight individual State titles in addition to claiming the overall State Team Title for the fourth year in a row. Remarkably, the team has maintained an undefeated streak for the past two seasons.

Charlotte Hubing emerged as the standout performer for the Silver Team, taking home four individual gold medals. The 10-year-old excelled in the all-around, floor, bars, and vault categories while also earning a silver medal on beam. Brielynn Lapolla, just 8 years old, claimed gold on bars and silver in the all-around. Nine-year-old Cambria Deeter captured the beam title, and her teammate Maya Rank, also 9, earned first place on floor. Additionally, 10-year-old Lyra Scrimgeour took home a gold medal on beam. Several other teammates delivered podium-worthy performances, including Maddox Cleveland, Laurel Lasecki, Leela Lama, Kali Tamble, Oksana Fediuk, Maisie Kelnhofer, Ashton Pichette, Adela Cordua-Stenzel, and Piper Delarwelle. In the Excel Gold Level competition, the Strivers secured a strong third-place team trophy out of 12 YMCA teams.

Leading the charge for the Excel Gold Team was 14-year-old Evelynn Kelsey, who captured gold on the floor exercise. Teammates who earned podium finishes included Genevieve Gigstead, Annabel Smullen, Ellie Kelsey, Cosette Orrick, Greta Virgin, Jessa Varney, Milana Reifsynder, Keira Clark, and Jackson Varney.

The Level 8 division saw the Striver Team securing a commendable fourth-place team trophy out of 10 Teams competing. Amira Anschutz and Estelle Duerst delivered award-winning performances, earning podium finishes.

Looking ahead, the Strivers will showcase their talent on a national stage at the 2026 YMCA National Gymnastics Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, scheduled from June 28 to July 2. The team’s success is guided by a dedicated coaching staff that includes Head Coach Nikki Pollman alongside Gerrit DeJonge, Stacey Berghuis, Heather Haese, and Mikki Rankin.
