Striver Gymnasts Shine at Sheboygan Snowflake Invitational

Sturgeon Bay, WI  - The Door County YMCA Striver Gymnastic Team shined bright this past weekend at the 34th Annual Sheboygan Snowflake Gymnastic Invitational. The Team returned to Door County with two Team trophies and 29 individual medals.

The Excel Silver Team continues to shine this season. The Team placed 2nd out of eight teams competing. The Silver gymnasts shined individually as well. Five out of the six Excel Silver gymnasts are first-year competitors. The Team earned six gold medals, two silver, and two bronze. All six gymnasts placed in the top five. Medals were awarded down to 8th place.

In the 12 and over age group, Lauren Gaida grabbed gold in the All-around and floor. Lauren placed 2nd on bars and 4th on beam and vault.

In the ten- and eleven-year-old age group, Greta Virgin won gold on the floor. Keira Clark captured gold on the beam, 2nd in the All-around, and 5th on the floor and vault. Evelynn Kelsey earned a 5th-place finish on the floor.  Ellie Kelsey in the nine and under age group captured gold on the vault and floor and Ellie placed 4th in the All-around.  Delaney Allen won bronze on bars and floor.

Excel Platinum gymnasts flipped to victory. Amelia Zoschke earned gold in the All-around, vault, and beam. Teammate Anna Gallardo -Ibarra earned gold on the floor. There were no Team awards handed out. The Strivers were the only team with enough girls competing for a Team score. The rest of the competitors were individual competitors in Excel Platinum.

The Striver Level six girls competed with half of their team. Three scores are tallied on each event to attain a Team score. The Striver Team had no room for error having only three competitors. The Level Six Team placed 2nd out of 9 teams competing. Leading the girls was Amira Anschutz, Amira earned gold in the All-around, silver on bars, bronze on the beam, and 6th on the floor. Sophia Sternard placed 5th on the beam, 7th in the All-around and bars, and 8th on the vault. Shylee Asher earned 8th on the vault.

The Striver Team will be heading to West Bend, WI to compete in the Kettle Moraine Invitational on March 4th and 5th.  Nikki Pollman, Gerritt DeJonge, and Heather Haese coach the Striver Team.
