That’s a Wrap on Summer Foods at the YMCA

The Door County YMCA has once again wrapped up a successful season of its Summer Foods Program, providing nearly 40,000 nourishing meals to children across Door and Kewaunee Counties.

This vital initiative, supported by more than 50 dedicated volunteers, ensured that local children continued receiving healthy meals during the summer months when school is not in session. Volunteers—made up of Y members, local businesses, and caring community members—came together to create, bag, and deliver meals to a wide network of partners. These included The Boys & Girls Club, local child care centers such as Doorway to Learning, churches and food pantries like Algoma United Methodist Church, and area school districts in support of their summer school programs.

“Ensuring children in our communities don’t miss that important meal—a meal they typically receive at school—during the summer is just one way the Y embraces our community,” said Brett Cleveland, Mission Advancement Executive.

The YMCA extends heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, partners, and supporters who made this program possible. By working together, the Y continues to strengthen the foundations of community, ensuring that every child has the nourishment needed to grow, learn and thrive.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to meeting this important need year-round. The Door County Y will continue to provide free afterschool meals at the Boys & Girls Club and both YMCA program centers throughout the school year, ensuring kids have the nutrition and support they need beyond summer
