COMING TOGETHER TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL ABUSE

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Door County YMCA is reaffirming its commitment to protecting the children in our community by participating in the Five Days of Action campaign. This week-long initiative from April 15-19, aims to increase awareness of child sexual abuse and empower and equip individuals to prevent it.

As part of its dedication to child safety, the Door County YMCA, alongside community partners, is taking part in the Five Days of Action campaign to raise awareness and implement abuse prevention practices year-round. By actively participating in this important campaign, the Door County YMCA underscores its commitment to the safety and well-being of all children in our community.

This year, the Know. See. Respond. campaign is back, offering valuable resources from Childhelp, Common Sense Media, and Committee for Children to support our efforts in preventing child sexual abuse.

Know: Understanding the facts about child sexual abuse is crucial in protecting children from harm. As parents, caregivers, and trusted adults, we must educate ourselves on the different types of abuse, recognize the signs, and learn how to prevent it. Visit childhelphotline.org to learn more and empower yourself with knowledge.

See: In today's digital age, media and technology play a significant role in children's lives. As caregivers, we must be vigilant in ensuring that all environments, including online spaces, are free from abuse. Visit commonsensemedia.org/articles/online-safety for tools and resources to navigate online safety for children.

Respond: Knowing how to respond to the call to prevent child sexual abuse is essential. Committee for Children's Hot Chocolate Talk campaign offers easy-to-use guides to initiate conversations about abuse prevention with children of all ages. Visit cfchildren.org/resources/child-abuse-prevention/ to access these valuable resources and empower children to report and refuse sexual abuse.

The Door County YMCA takes its commitment to child protection seriously, and we urge our community members to join us in this vital endeavor.
