About the Program

The Leaders in Training (L. I. T.) program is a leadership development and mentoring program designed from individuals entering Grade 7 and up. This training program gives youth who have aged out of our traditional camps the opportunity to give back to the program and their communities by assisting our camp counselors.

 

The program's goal is to provide participants with opportunities to improve their leadership skills and to be an example of the Y's four core values - honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. In addition, L. I. T.s develop skills needed to deal effectively with groups of children, organization, safety awareness and motivation. 

 

L. I. T. participant expectations include:

  • commitment to a set schedule, or adequate communication with their camp supervisor if unable to attend a scheduled day.
  • full participation in all camp activities and duties
  • demonstration of positive role modeling to campers at all times
