Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I get started with my exercise routine in the Wellness Center?

Scheduling a free wellness coaching appointment with one of our health and wellness experts to help start you off on the right track.  You may also schedule an orientation in the Wellness Center.   We have certified strength and conditioning staff available to teach you how to use the cardiovascular and strengthening machines to achieve the maximum benefit and avoid unnecessary injury. For your safety, if you are new to exercise or not familiar with exercise equipment, we highly recommend that you have an orientation to the machines prior to using them. Please stop by the Welcome Center to sign up for your FREE orientation.

How do I register for classes?

YMCA members have priority in registration for all classes. You can sign-up for classes at any time, but registrations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recommend you sign up for classes during registration week to obtain your first choice. Register via one of three methods: online, in-person or over-the-phone. The annual session calendar and registration dates are available at here.

Even if there is no fee for a class, you must register to be assured of a spot. Program fees must be paid with registration at the Welcome Center. Payments can be made using cash, check, credit card (all 4 major cards accepted) or bank draft.

What about closing or class cancellations?

Classes may be canceled due to inclement weather. These circumstances are out of the YMCA’s control and will not be rescheduled. Programs held outdoors may be rescheduled if repeatedly canceled. Weather cancellations are announced on all local radio stations and are listed on our website, Facebook page, and through our Mobile App.

What is your cancellation policy?

A YMCA class or activity could be canceled due to storms, “accidents” in the pool, lack of instructor, snow, unsafe conditions, and/or rain.  There are no refunds offered for classes canceled due to these circumstances.  Requests to cancel a class and receive a refund must be made within the first 2 weeks of the session. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or combine classes. There are no credits given for individual classes missed (unless a written medical excuse is provided). A member must maintain their membership through the end of the session to receive member pricing.

What if I forget something for my workout?

Select items (varies by branch) can be purchased at the Welcome Center.

What can I bring into the workout areas?

You can bring your refillable water bottle. Bottle re-fillers are available. Please, no colored drinks that can stain or damage the center.

Can I rent a locker?

Lockers are available for daily member use at no charge. You are encouraged to bring your own lock to secure your belongings for the day, or you can rent a small locker for just $30.00 a year in the youth locker rooms or $35.00 a year in the adult locker rooms. Ask the Welcome Center for more details.

Towel service has been discontinued. Please bring your own sweat towel and/or shower towel.

Can I bring a friend with me?

Active members will receive an email each fall in which they can stop at the Welcome Center to pickup an annual set of guest passes (limit one set per membership unit). In addition, daily and 10-visit flex passes are available for purchase (pricing available here) at any time.

What should I be mindful of in group exercise settings?

Please  be mindful of everyone’s space and keep your appropriate distance. Please do not wear perfume or heavily scented lotions when exercising in a group. Many individuals are sensitive to these items. The Door County YMCA is used by many people going through medical treatments for cancer or other illnesses, and these perfumed products may make them ill. We also ask that you do not exceed more than 30 minutes on the machines in the Wellness Center.

Can I change my membership type?

You may change your membership type at anytime during your membership without penalty or fee. For example, you can switch from an adult membership to a household membership, or vice versa. The difference in membership rates will apply.

Am I locked into a contract or minimum monthly membership commitment?

No. Unless your pay your membership annually in full, monthly draft members are never required to be maintain their membership for any minimum length of time. However, the membership must be set up to draft monthly, and each draft covers the membership for that current calendar month.

Can I terminate my membership or put it on hold mid-month and receive a pro-rated refund?

No. Any requests must start and end at the end of a calendar month. Membership termination requests can take effect as soon as the end of that current calendar month in which the request is received by Y staff. Members who request to terminate will have full membership benefits through the end of the current month in which they have paid.
